Tamil Nesan reported that many foreigners can be seen begging in places like restaurants, LRT stations, shopping complexes, banks and shops in Kuala Lumpur.
Some of the beggars often use abusive words when they fail to get any money. It has been reported that the beggars are brought in from China on a three-month social visit pass by a syndicate that provides them with accommodation.
About 10 of them live on the upper floor of a shophouse in Brickfields and pay RM700 a month in rent. They leave at around 6.30am every day and return late at night. They are believed to earn quite a lot of money and go back to their country once their visas expire.
Another group is then brought in by the syndicate. The beggars have been seen exchanging the coins they receive and can earn up to RM300 a week.
The paper also wrote in its editorial that the three major races have contributed greatly in the development of this country during the early years.
It said the Chinese community laid the foundation for the tin-mining industry while the Indians helped clear jungles for rubber plantations. The Malays, who were mostly padi farmers, helped in food production. - The Star
