KUALA LUMPUR: Two more Indonesian men, both in their 30s, were arrested and more parang and sharp tools seized during the third raid yesterday morning at an illegal settlement in Bukit Kiara View jungle.
The arrest is believed to be linked to the two men and a woman detained on Friday during a raid on illegal immigrants' settlement near Desa Sri Hartamas close to housing areas with a large expatriate population.
During the first and second raids, police discovered a cache of weapons, including six sticks of industrial-grade C4-Emulex explosives, four detonators and 38 sharp weapons.
The sharp weapons included long machetes and axes.
Emulex is commonly used in tunnel boring, quarrying and road construction.
The explosives were found hidden beneath one of the houses in the settlement.
More arrests could not be made as most of the residents in the illegal settlement managed to escape before the raid.
Police are working closely with intelligence from a neighbouring country to determine if the weapons seized were linked to terrorist activities.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said since nothing has been confirmed, police were looking into all possible angles.
"We will investigate if indeed these weapons were used for criminal or terrorists' activities."
He said police were also trying to find out the origin of these weapons and what they were being used for or their intended use.
The case is being investigated under the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
It is learnt that the illegal settlement has existed for three years. - NST
