PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia-Australia working group on trafficking and smuggling of persons will meet for two days to discuss on issues both countries are committed to jointly fight against.
The meeting, which will start on Wednesday, is a follow-up to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s meeting with Australian authorities where issues like human trafficking was raised.
Several working papers are expected to be tabled and discussed by authorities like the Foreign Ministry, Home Ministry, police and the Immigration Department.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop will lead the Malaysian delegation for the first day’s discussion while his colleague Jelaing Mersat will lead the second day’s meeting.
The meeting will also be attended by ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and senior officials from the Defence Ministry and the National Security Council.
Australia’s delegation will be led by Duncan Lewis, who is the national security adviser to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. - The Star
