SUNGAI PETANI, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Several industrial companies are facing staff shortage after they were reported to have received product bookings and production contracts from overseas.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said the companies based in the Klang Valley and Johor, had even asked for the ministry's assistance to get new workers.
"We are looking into their problems in getting local workers. Probably, the salary offered was not so attractive, but if they are planning to hire foreign workers, we will find out how much they are willing to pay," he told reporters after opening a seminar with the agencies under the ministry here on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, he urged those who were unemployed to attend skills enhancement courses offered by the ministry at 300 institutions nationwide.
He said the government had allocated RM330 million to pay the monthly allowance for the participants.
"So far, we have about 20,000 places for various skills courses at the institutions and the people should at least, take the opportunity to attend it," added Dr Subramaniam.
