SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Cuepacs Tuesday called on the government to consider allowing civil servants at all levels to be warded in first-class wards while undergoing treatment in public hospitals.
Its president, Omar Osman, said the paper on the proposal would be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak soon.
If accepted, it would make the civil servants feel more appreciated and thus motivate them to work harder to provide excellent service, he said.
"At present, civil servants are warded according to their salary scales, mostly in second-class and third-class wards even though they play the same role in the government service," he told a news conference here Tuesday.
Omar said the second-class and third-class wards in public hospitals were normally occupied by foreign nationals and it was not right for civil servants to be placed together with them.
"We are not asking for the civil servants to be given single rooms. It doesn't matter if they have to share it with four other people as long as it's a first-class ward," he said.
He said the paper also contained a call by Cuepacs to review the lodging allowance of RM80 as most hotels in the country were charging more than RM100 for a room.
He also said that Cuepacs would continue to organise briefings to explain the national key result areas (NKRAs) and the 1Malaysia concept to its members nationwide to ensure that civil servants understood and applied them in their services.
