PUTRAJAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- About 100,000 jobs in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related fields are expected to be created by 2010, said Multimedia Development Corporation (Mdec) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali.
He said demand for knowledge workers or K-Workers was projected to increase, despite the present global economic conditions.
"A recent Frost and Sullivan study also showed that over the next three-year period, a total of 50,000 new jobs will be created by MSC Malaysia status companies," he said in his speech at the MSC Undergraduate Apprenticeships and Development Programme (UGRAD) certificate presentation ceremony.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin presented the certificates of completion to the trainees.
Abdul Halim said in the last one-year period alone, despite the challenging economic environment, the MSC Malaysia community had created over 6,700 new jobs.
For this year, a total of 115 trainees from the first cohort had completed their attachment and another 285 trainees were currently undergoing the UGRAD programme.
Abdul Halim said this year, UGRAD was projected to produce 600 trainees.
